The Music of Chance

The feature debut of documentary filmmaker Philip Haas (Money Man) is an adaptation of Paul Auster's allegorical novel. Mandy Patinkin plays a drifter and failed fireman who stakes a gifted card player (James Spader) in a game with two cagey, eccentric millionaires (Charles Durning and Joel Grey). When they're unable to pay off their debts, Patinkin and Spader are forced to build a wall composed of 15th century stones across a decayed landscape. "This haunting and elegantly made [film has] a sustaining air of mystery" (Janet Maslin, The New York Times). With M. Emmet Walsh, Samantha Mathis and Christopher Penn.
