Red Sorghum

A vivid, richly coloured drama about a young woman who takes on the management of her late husband's distillery in Northern China. All appears to be going well until the advent of the Sino-Japanese War and the abrupt bloody appearance of the foreign invaders. The debut feature from Zhang Yimou ("Curse of the Golden Flower") won the Golden Bear (Best Film) award at the Berlin International Film Festival and stars the luminous Gong Li.
