She's Gotta Have It

The celebrated first feature from independent black filmmaker Spike Lee, a brazenly comic foray into sexual politics. Tracy Camilla Johns stars as Nola Darling, a beautiful, free-spirited artist who simultaneously shares three men for her pleasure, dominance and one-upmanship. Lee's acute comic perception, innovative cutting and hilarious use of montage aesthetics - where Lola's suitors slay her with opening lines and come ons - are evidence of a stream of consciousness talent and film school sensibility. His father, Bill Lee, composed the music.
