The Way Ahead

A.k.a. "The Immortal Battalion". Having seen a 44 minute training film called 'The New Lot', Winston Churchill approached actor David Niven about making something that would do for the army what 'In Which We Serve' had done for the navy. The result, co-scripted by Eric Ambler and Peter Ustinov, is an expansion of that original short and stars Niven as Lt Jim Perry who finds he must take a hard line with the raw recruits he's been given if they're to survive the North African campaign.
