Cries and Whispers

One of writer/director Ingmar Bergman's most acclaimed films, 'Cries and Whispers' is a dramatically intense story set in a vast manor house in rural Sweden circa 1900. Three sisters reside there, one of them terminally ill, along with their housekeeper. Their relationships to and with each other form the unfolding psychodrama. Superbly acted by Bergman regulars Harriet Andersson and Liv Ullmann and strikingly photographed by the great Sven Nykvist. His contribution won an Oscar.
