After learning medical insurers won't pay for his son's needed heart transplant, cash-strapped working-class dad Denzel Washington goes ballistic, taking doctors, staffers and patients at a Chicago hospital emergency room hostage. As police chief Ray Liotta and negotiator Robert Duvall attempt to defuse the tense stand-off, Washington demands that his son receive a new heart or else.
