Lorenzo's Oil

A stirring adaptation of the real-life story of Michaela and Agusto Odone, whose son Lorenzo was stricken by an incurable, and fatal, disease known as ALD. Rising above its mushy "disease-of-the-week" roots, Lorenzo's Oil is more riveting scientific detective story than melodrama as it follows the Odones in their relentless search for a scintilla of hope while battling a complacent medical establishment. Both Sarandon and Nolte offer superb performances as the beleaguered parents whose love for their son drives them to feverishly search for their own cure.
