I Am Sam

Sean Penn is Sam, a mentally challenged man who cleans tables at an LA coffeehouse and whose life is radically changed when the homeless woman living with him gives birth to their daughter, then leaves. With a little help from his friends, Penn tries to raise the child, until she's about to turn seven and the courts want to take the girl away. Seeking help, Penn turns to self-absorbed attorney Michelle Pfeiffer, who is forced into taking his case pro-bono by her firm. Dianne Wiest and Richard Schiff also star in this poignant drama.
