The Butcher Boy

A blackly comic study of an Irish boy who doesn't have a chance in life; his father is a perpetual drunk, his mother a mentally fragile soul. Yet he greets the world with bravado and the gift of the gab - the only problem is, he's deranged. Neill Jordan's ('The Crying Game', 'Mona Lisa') take on Patrick McCabe's novel is a true original. Stars Stephen Rea, Fiona Shaw and Eamonn Owens who won much kudos for his startling lead performance.
