A true-life story about Henry Brubaker (Robert Redford), a prison warden who has himself arrested and thrown into his own Arkansas jail in order to find out what conditions for prisoners are really like. His harrowing discoveries lead to vast prison reforms. Yaphet Kotto, Jane Alexander, Murray Hamilton, Wilford Brimley and Morgan Freeman also star; directed by Stuart Rosenberg ("Cool Hand Luke").
