Carve Her Name With Pride

Based on R. J. Minney's book about real-life British war heroine Violet Szabo (Virginia McKenna) who parachuted into Nazi-occupied Europe as a secret agent, only to be betrayed and executed at Ravensbruck. She was posthumously awarded the George Cross. Virginia McKenna had only two days off during a rigorous 92-day shoot (during which time she married actor Bill Travers) and insisted on doing the parachute tower jump herself - which she very much enjoyed. Look out for a brief glimpse of a young Michael Caine as a prisoner on the train.
