History of Warfare: Gallic Wars / Hannibal at War

2 episodes. "Gallic Wars" - The dramatic story of the campaigns of 58 to 53BC in which Julius Caesar and his Roman Legions conquered Gaul - modern day France. Caesar's intervention in the brutal Gallic intertribal warfare was originally prompted by genuine concern for Italian security, but as the campaign developed, Rome's greatest commander began to hatch plans for full conquest. Remarkably, Julius Caesar's own accounts of the Gallic Wars have survived to this very day. "Hannibal at War" - A wonderfully instructive overview of this turbulent period between Rome and Carthage. The centuries long struggle between Rome and Carthage for control of the Mediterranean which saw advantage swing first one way and then the other is clearly and concisely covered in this atmospheric video.
