Vera Drake

Vera Drake (Imelda Staunton - Academy Award Nominee Best Actress 2005) lives with her husband Stan (Phil Davis) and their two adult children, Sid and Ethel (Daniel Mays and Alex Kelly). Vera lives an altruistic life. After work each day she spends her time nursing her mother and ill neighbours and taking in suppertime strays. Unbeknownst to her family, Vera also helps girls who "find themselves in trouble". Writer/Director Mike Leigh's ("Secrets and Lies") Venice Golden Lion winning story is an affecting drama which examines social attitudes to abortion in post-war London. "Vera Drake is British director Mike Leigh's finest film... The acting is practically perfect." - David Stratton, At the Movies.
