Pierrepoint

A compelling biopic about England's most prolific hangman, the unassuming Albert Pierrpoint, captured here perfectly by Timothy Spall. Beginning when he took over the family profession from his father, the shy grocery clerk became so efficient at his second job that his services were sought all around the country; in fact so well-known was his skill that he was called upon by Field Marshall Montgomery to execute Nazis found guilty of war crimes. However as public opinion about the death penalty begins to turn, so does Pierrepoint begin to question his grim work. This engrossing drama also stars Juliet Stevenson and Eddie Marsan.
