Kokoda Frontline

This ground-breaking documentary released in 1942 became Australia's first Oscar-winning film - the first and only Oscar given for news footage. Renowned war journalist Damien Parer recorded the battle that raged for seven months along a single file track in hostile and rugged terrain, trying to show the desperate conditions troops were fighting under in New Guinea. He was killed in action two years later, but his incredible footage survives.
