Three outstanding directors came together with the idea of making three separate films, then decided to weave their stories together using a train journey from Vienna to Rome as the main thread. Olmi's story tells of a biochemist who takes the train after his flight is cancelled due to a terrorist threat; Kiarostami's story picks up in Italy when a demanding woman and her long-suffering aide board the train; and finally Ken Loach's contribution centres on three Scottish football fans and an Albanian family with no money for tickets. Fluid, enchanting, funny and ultimately a successful collaboration of like-minded artists.
