Joyeux Noel

This Oscar-nominated film tells the true story of troops whose lives were changed on Christmas Eve of 1914 as they put down their weapons and celebrated Christmas together. On the battlefields of Northern France a Danish soprano (Diane Kruger) manages to visit her German lover (Benno Furmann) in the trenches. On the Allied side, Scottish troops begin playing their bagpipes and soon the universality of music brings about a miraculous, if temporary, ceasefire that would be the stuff of melodrama if it hadn't really happened.
