Renegade ( aka Blueberry )
This loose adaptation of Jean 'Mobius' Giraud's comic series 'Blueberry' stars Vincent Cassel as the lawman whose past comes back to haunt him when the man responsible for his first love's murder comes to town. Blount (Michael Madsen) seeks an ancient treasure buried on tribal grounds, while Blueberry and Indian friend Temuera Morrison try to keep the land sacred. Sounds simple enough but this existentialist western takes a peyote-feulled turn about halfway through and is like no cowboy flick you've ever seen. A powerhouse cast includes Juliette Lewis, Eddie Izzard, Colm Meaney and a cameo from the legendary Ernest Borgnine. Not for those with a strong hankering for narrative payoffs.
