The Last Man Hanged

This dramatized documentary features Colin Friels as Ronald Ryan, the last man to be hanged in Australia, in 1967. A gambler who turned to crime to support his family, he was later controversially convicted of murder after a prison guard was killed during an escape attempt. Massive public outrage subsequently led to the abolition of the death penalty. A powerful and emotional statement about capital punishment that includes interviews with those who knew Ryan well.
