Veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones wears the director's hat for the first time with this poetic homage to the Tex-Mex western, written by Guillermo Arriaga ('21 Grams', 'Amores Perros'). He also stars as weather-beaten ranch hand, Pete, who finds the murdered body of his eponymous Mexican friend. With a nod to Peckinpah's 'Bring Me the Head of Alfred Garcia', Jones' film is less vengeance-fuelled and more affectionate satire as Pete drags his friend, and his friend's killer, through the desert for a decent burial. Best Screenplay and Best Actor (Tommy Lee Jones) at Cannes.
