The Burning Plain
Sylvia (Charlize Theron) is the icily professional manager of an upmarket restaurant who spends her spare time having meaningless sex with different men. Gina (Kim Basinger) is a married housewife and mother of four who begins an affair with Nick (Joaquim de Almeida), a Mexican-American man who is also married with a family. Maria (Jennifer Lawrence) is a teenager searching for the mother who abandoned her when she was two days old. The various strands and connections between the characters are gradually revealed throughout the film in writer/director Guillermo Arriaga's signature style, previously seen in his collaborations with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu: 'Amores Perros', '21 Grams' and 'Babel'.
