Brokeback Mountain

Ang Lee's Oscar-winning gay cowboy story successfully challenges the stereotypes of one of Hollywood's most beloved genres, the Western. Emotionally crippled ranch-hand Ennis (Heath Ledger) and rodeo cowboy Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet in 1963 and unexpectedly fall in love. Years later they meet again, both are married, but their true feelings still simmer just below the surface. Based on a short story by Annie Proulx, this is a beautifully crafted and epic love story, at once uplifting and devastating.
