Dot is a deaf/mute teen sent to live with her godparents after the death of her father, but she soon realises the happy family facade is wafer thin and the disturbing manipulations beneath are only too obvious to her. The two young leads are excellent and well-supported by Edie Falco as the mother addicted to prescription drugs and Martin Donovan as the father who likes to visit his daughters at night. Dark stuff indeed, this psychological thriller is handled respectfully by director Jamie Babbit ('But I'm A Cheerleader').
