12 and Holding
Following the tragic death of his twin brother, Jacob and his two close friends, Malee and Leonard, struggle to understand the reasons for his death at the hands of bullies. Jacob soon succumbs to fantasies of revenge, Malee becomes caught up in the life of one of her psychotherapist mother's patients, and Leonard, who is overweight, tries to come to terms with his obese mother and the issues underlying the problem. This vividly realistic coming-of-age film effortlessly weaves the various storylines together and highlights the ability of children to guage the emotional lives of the adults around them, without necessarily knowing how to process the information.
