Legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog's mesmerising documentary is a beautifully photographed look at the largest Buddhist ritual in Bodh Gaya, India, one of four sacred pilgrimage sites in Buddhism, and famed for being the place of Buddah's enlightenment. Here monks create the Kalachakra sand mandala, a magnificent, intricate work of art, meticulously constructed with coloured sand, through which they will complete their ordination. The fragile, delicate work, taking place over 12 days, is followed by the mandala's total destruction, as the sands that make up the 'wheel of time' are scattered as a spiritual blessing. Featuring a rare, amusing and insightful interview with the Dalai Lama.
