At first thought to be an easy target, the island of Iwo Jima was only supposed to take three or four days to secure. Instead a month of brutal fighting saw the Marine Corp, for the first time in history, suffer more casualties than the enemy. Of 81 Medals of Honour awarded to Marines in WWII, 27 of them went to soldiers in that fierce battle. This 3-part documentary series tells the story of this infamous island war.
