Innocent Voices

Based on the autobiography of Oscar Orlando Torres this is the incredible and harrowing story of a young boy caught up in the vicious El Salvadoran civil war. Chava is an 11-year-old boy who doesn't have long to enjoy his childhood. Government forces (trained by the US) regularly sweep villages taking any male over 12 to train as soldiers against the rebel guerillas. However, Chava's mother is determined to try and keep her family together even as a merciless war rages all around them. A winner of numerous international film festival awards, this is a powerful telling of the effects of war on innocents.
