South Korea's highest-grossing film of all time (until it was surpassed by 2006's 'The Host') is this period drama-comedy about a group of wandering minstrels who get on the wrong side of the King after they take the mick out of him in their street act. They are summarily sentenced to death - unless they can make the King laugh. They win their lives but palace intrigue, a jealous concubine and the King's obsessive fascination with the troupe's cross-dressing star mean they are far from safe. Based on a play, it was also Korea's submission for the Oscars.
