Vanaja

A financially troubled fisherman sends his 14 year old daughter Vanaja to work in the local landlady's house, where she hopes to learn Kuchipudi dance. She does well, but when the landlady's son returns from the US initially innocent sexual chemistry turns ugly. Set in rural South India where social barriers seem impregnable and justice is sometimes unattainable, the film explores the chasm that divides classes as a young girl struggles to come of age.
