Love in the Time of Cholera

A sweeping and ambitious film adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, set in early 1900s South America and tracking five decades of unrequited love. The excellent Javier Bardem plays Florentino, a young man who falls for the beautiful Fermina, but their love is doomed when her over-protective father (John Leguizamo) sends her away. With the 400-page book being distilled into just over two hours, Marquez fans will notice plenty missing, but the central core of the story remains intact, with director Mike Newell crafting a handsome romantic epic.
