A hyper-real, testosterone-laden interpretation of the Spartan legend, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel and drenched in the same CGI-enhanced gold and blood-red hues. Gerard Butler heads a cast of washboard abs who take on the awesome might of the, in this case, wholly perverted Persian army, and win. Sort of. Shot entirely with blue-screen in just 60 days, post-production took more than a year, as computer boffins recreated the distinctive look of the source material. 'Gladiator' meets 'Sin CIty' in this ferociously stylized revision of history.
