Starting Out in the Evening

An adaptation of Brian Morton's best-seller about an aging author whose success is long behind him when a young grad student convinces him to let her do her thesis on him. Hoping interest in his work will be rekindled, they begin working together, but when things take a turn for the personal it all gets a bit complicated. Frank Langella is nuanced and believable in the lead with solid support from Lauren Ambrose as the enthusiastic student, Lili Taylor as Langella's troubled daughter and Adrian Lester as the potential son-in-law he doesn't like. A smart, satisfying drama with a rich vein of dry humour.
