Slumdog Millionaire

Danny Boyle's quirky and suspenseful romantic drama is set in the slums of Mumbai and riffs on the multi-cultural icon that is 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'. It snapped up Best Director, Best Picture and Best Screenplay at all three heavyweight industry prizegivings - the Oscars, BAFTAs and the Golden Globes (the first film to do so since 'Schindler's List') - and to think, it almost went straight-to-video! Based on the novel "Q & A" by Vikas Swarup, the film is gripping and uplifting, pulled off by a beguiling young cast of unknowns.
