I Am Because We Are

Malawi is a country in crisis. In a population of 12 million, one million of those are orphaned children, left parentless by the AIDs pandemic. In 2006, pop singer Madonna began studying this human disaster, and decided to use her wealth and celebrity to help; she helped finance the construction of a home for orphans, founded a relief organization called the Raising Malawi Orphan Care Initiative and, amidst media controversy, adopted a young boy. This heart-wrenching, yet hopeful documentary, which Madonna wrote and produced, demonstrates the need for action by profiling eight children growing up without parents. Interviewees include Bill Clinton, Bishop Desmond Tutu and UN Advisor Jeffrey Sachs.
