L.A. Takedown

As cop and criminal, two ruthless professionals have the same outlook and code. Vincent Hanna (Scott Plank) is an obsessive cop tailing a callous and clinical armed robber, Patrick McLaren (Alex McArthur). They first meet across a crowded cafe and after a heist goes wrong Hanna and McLaren confront each other in a full scale battle on the streets of Los Angeles. This tv movie from 1989 was writer/director Michael Mann's blueprint for his 1995 crime drama classic, "Heat". Originally intended as a pilot for a series that never eventuated, many of "Heat"'s later characters, scenes and dialogue have been sourced from this earlier effort. Certainly more rough around the edges than the later polished big-screen outing, this stands as somewhat of a curio for those wanting to see the "before" version.
