The Grapes of Wrath

One of the great classics, this adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel stars Henry Fonda as Tom Joad and John Carradine as Casey. Tom returns to the family farm only to find his clan have been forced off their land (like so many others) as Oklahoma becomes an unyielding 'dust-bowl' of an area. So starts a migration of thousands of destitute 'Okies' to California and the distant promise of a better life. The film won the Academy Award for John Ford for Best Director.
