Director Alan Parker expertly brings Frank McCourt's acclaimed recollection of life in 1930s Limerick, Ireland, to the screen in this touching and emotional drama. Returning to Europe after living for years in New York, the McCourt family copes with poverty, prejudice and unemployed father Robert Carlyle's alcoholism, while mother Emily Watson struggles to provide for her sons, and Frank (played at various ages by Joe Breen, Ciaran Owens and Michael Legge) dreams of returning to America.
