Red Desert ( Il Deserto Rosso )

Michelangelo Antonioni's first colour film is an intriguing study of alienation. Against the backdrop of a sterilized, impersonal industrial landscape, a love affair is enacted out as the film longs for a return to a more innocent era and deals with the impossibility of real communication between people entrapped in this modern, hostile environment.
