A haemophobic surgeon from London moves to a Cornish village where he becomes the local GP. His social awkwardness and secret fear of blood lead to many humourous misunderstandings with his patients. Despite his surgical brilliance, Doctor Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) lacks vital personal skills and any semblance of a bedside manner, and often fails to understand other people. The good doctor soon finds he needs all the allies he can get as he tries to negotiate his way around village life with hilarious consequences!
