A Man for All Seasons

Adapted by Robert Bolt and Constance Willis from Bolt's hit stage play, this is a literate, penetrating treatment of the conflict between Thomas More (Paul Scofield) and King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw). Director Zinnemann concentrates on characterisation rather than spectacle with superior results. The film won six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, as well as seven BAFTAS.
