Author Marcel Pagnol's childhood reminiscences about life in the South of France at the turn of the century make up this bittersweet look at the joys and pains of growing up. Yves Robert's film focuses on a boy's relationship with his schoolteacher father and his adventures at the family's summer home in the mountains.
