Sometimes a Great Notion

Aka: 'Never Give an Inch'. Paul Newman directs and stars in Ken Kesey's best-selling novel about a two-fisted Oregon lumber family that bucks the close-knit timber community in which they live in order to deliver a shipment of logs in defiance of a strike. In the process, one man is killed, the crusty family patriarch, Henry Stamper (Henry Fonda) loses his arm, and the eldest son Hank (Newman) almost loses his wife, Viv (Lee Remick) to his half brother (MIchael Sarrazin). But as you'd expect they never give an inch, and the story ends on a proud and defiant note.
