The Poseidon Adventure
A massive ocean liner is at sea on New Year's Eve when just after midnight a freak wave smacks into her side, flipping her upside down in the freezing water. Most passengers and crew are drowned, but a small group survive and must now try to escape the stricken vessel before it takes them to the bottom. Among the first and most successful of the '70s disaster flicks it has a powerhouse ensemble (Gene Hackman, Shelley Winters, Red Buttons etc), was nominated for an astonishing 8 Oscars and won 2. Based on Paul Gallico's novel.
