Tora! Tora! Tora!
This $25 million epic collaboration faithfully recreates the events leading up to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbour. An insightful and well-crafted World War II action drama based on Gordon Prange's book - it's the result of years of negotiations between the two countries. Original director Akira Kurosawa dropped out citing conflict with an overly controlling studio, and with its objective approach it did well in Japan though not in the US.
