Enemy at the Gates
Stalingrad, 1942. Against this vivid and sprawling backdrop a personal war is being played out by two opponents. Vassili (Jude Law), an expert Russian sniper whose deeds have become legendary, soon finds himself immersed in a cunning game of cat and mouse when the Germans dispatch their best sniper, Major Konig (Ed Harris), to stop him. Jean-Jacques Annaud's ('The Name of the Rose') meticulously constructed, big-scale, extraordinary work was inspired by true events and has the distinction of being the highest-budgeted European feature ever (to date).
