Atanarjuat - The Fast Runner

The first feature film made by the indigenous Inuit people of Northern Canada, this starkly beautiful drama takes place in a remote Inuit community said to be under a curse. Young Atanarjuat, known for his running ability, falls for Atuat, who was promised to chief's son Oki, and must butt heads - literally - with his rival for the right to wed her. Atanarjuat wins, but jealousies and rivalries lead to shocking crimes and, perhaps, the curse's fulfillment. With Natar Ungalaaq, Sylvia Ivalu.
