The Lady and the Duke

The tale of a beautiful royalist English gentlewoman, Grace Elliott (Lucy Russell), living perilously in France during the Revolution, and her doomed relationship with Philippe, Duke of Orleans (Jean-Claude Dreyfus). Although a cousin of King Louis XVI, the Duke is nonetheless a supporter of revolutionary ideas. The Lady manages to persuade the Duke to risk his life to rescue an outlaw, with tragic results but fails to keep him from voting for the King's execution. Based on "Journal of My Life During the French Revolution" by Grace Elliott. Directed by Eric Rohmer.
