Pinero

After doing hard time in prison for drug-dealing and petty theft, Miguel Pinero turned his prison experiences into the '70s Tony Award-winning play "Short Eyes". Then, as a founder of the famed Nuyorican Poets Cafe on Manhattan's Lower East Side, Pinero crafted an influential style of rhythmic urban poetry that is widely recognised as a precursor to rap and hip-hop. Benjamin Bratt as Pinero delivers a persuasive performance in this kinetic biography. Supporting cast includes; Giancarlo Esposito, Talisa Soto, Mandy Patinkin, Michael Wright and Rita Moreno.
