As the threat of Japanese invasion looms he meets Russian refugee Sofia (Natasha Richardson), forced into prostitution to support her family, and inevitably they fall in love. Also stars Richardson's real-life mother and aunt, Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave. Directed by James Ivory whose long-time partner, producer Ismail Merchant, died the year it was made.
