The Fountain

Darren Aronofsky directs his wife, Rachel Weisz, and Hugh Jackman in this abstract sci-fi odyssey about one man's thousand-year quest to save the woman he loves. Ostensibly abandoning the concept of narrative, Aronofsky weaves a poetically avant garde tale, with Hugh Jackman's character appearing in three different time periods, past, present and future, each time attempting to harness the mythical powers of the Tree of Life to heal his ailing wife. A visually impressive art piece on love and loss, that flies in the face of conventional story-telling.
